"Five Feet of Soul"
March 23, 1953 - April 28, 2017

Brenda Burns is a petite woman whose monstrous presence of talent defies her four foot eleven stature, possessing the kind of vocal excellence found in but a handful of individuals. She augments this with an equally one of a kind song writing style and the kind of gritty guitar playing that is most often associated with a Texas roadhouse...

BRENDA BURNS .... The Singer
It's no secret these days around her adopted hometown of Los Angeles that Dallas Texan Brenda Burns is a singer's singer and a writer's writer. The youngest of four musical siblings, Brenda debuted at age 2 singing on "THE SUNSET RANCH", a nation-wide television show on which her father, sisters and brother performed regularly. Brenda's father JOHNNY BURNS who played fiddle with SPADE COOLEY among others, involved his children musically with such associates as RED FOLEY, THE WILBURN BROTHERS and other country music greats of that era. Age 11 brought a recording debut for Brenda with a single on an independent Dallas label, TORNADO RECORDS. A subsequent move to L.A. gained notoriety for the Burns family as a tight vocal harmony section on countless recording sessions and performances. Brenda went on to a career as a vocalist that included work with such major artists as TANYA TUCKER, THE TCB BAND (Elvis' final backing unit), DOBIE GRAY, MARIA MULDAUR, ART PEPPER, EDWARD JAMES OLMOS, KENNY ROGERS, DOTTIE WEST, JOHN MAYALL, BOBBY WHITLOCK, GEORGE BURNS(!) and toured extensively as a featured lead vocalist with Texas greats ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL. Burns had a prominent vocal role in the legendary "GOSPEL NIGHTS" album, recorded live at Mc Cabe's which featured MARIA MULDAUR with the Burns sisters and THE CHAMBERS BROTHERS. More recently her vocal work has received worldwide attention for her lead singing contributions to the first solo CD of legendary blues guitarist JUNIOR WATSON (Long Overdue - Black Magic/Black Top) and for her essential vocal and guitar work on the solo debut release of her longtime musical partner JOHN "JUKE" LOGAN (The Chill - Sky Ranch/Virgin).

BRENDA BURNS .... The Writer
The original compositions of Brenda Burns have been covered by MARIA MULDAUR (Finally Made Love to A Man -Warner Bros.), the late DOTTIE WEST (Lady Blonde and Fair - Premium/RCA), TRICIA JOHNS (I Just Want Love - Electra) and various artists throughout the U.S. Her composition Was it You was prominently featured in the MGM/UA film "BLUEBERRY HILL". For a more comprehensive list of Brenda's songs that have been recorded by other artists and other albums on which she has appeared, see BRENDA BURNS' MUSIC. Because of lyrics that come straight from her heart and performances that come straight from her soul, nobody drives the material home like the composer. The pure class of Brenda Burns' vocals, her warm and soulful style, her own guitar and keyboard playing in combination with the excellent musicians with whom she surrounds herself are all the best possible vehicles for her hypnotic songs. A Brenda Burns performance, be it live or recorded is a seamless combination of Rockin' Rhythm & Blues, Sultry Jazz and Southern-Style musical ingredients. Her debut solo CD "A SONG AWAY FROM YOU" is a prime example of the multi-talented dynamo we have come to know as Brenda Burns.
